Breast Reduction

Also known as a mammaplasty, breast reduction surgery is used to reduce the size of the breast by removing excess fat, tissue and skin. This procedure is commonly performed to ease stress and discomfort, or to achieve a breast size more proportionate to the rest of the body.

Typically, the procedure involves the surgeon making incisions around the areolas and nipples, and down the front of each breast. Excess breast tissue, fat and skin is removed to reduce the size before the breasts are reshaped and the nipples and areolas repositioned. Usually the nipples and areolas will remain attached to the breasts, but may need to be removed and reattached as a skin graft if the breasts are very large.
