Breast Augmentation

For women who feel their breasts are out of proportion with the rest of their body, breast augmentation surgery can create a shapelier, fuller figure and can also provide an emotional lift. Typically, implants are made from a saline solution or silicone gel. Your surgeon will discuss which will be used, depending on personal preferences, anatomy and lifestyle.

During the procedure, a small incision will be made under the crease of the breast, beneath the areola, or sometimes under the armpit. The breast tissue is then lifted, either over or under the pectoral muscle, creating a pocket for insertion of the implant. The implant itself is then inserted behind the breast, creating size, shape and volume, and the incision closed. This procedure can take up to three to four hours, and total recovery takes around six weeks, though non-strenuous activity can be resumed after approximately one week.
