Hair Transplantation

Similar to hair replacement procedures, hair transplantation consists of moving hair from “donor areas” to thinning or balding “recipient areas”. Hair transplantation can be used to restore eyelashes, eyebrows, beard hair, chest hair and pubic hair, as well as to fill in scars caused by accidents or surgeries such as face lifts or previous hair transplants.

Hair-bearing transplantation grafts, taken from the donor area and moved to the recipient area, will differ in size and shape. Circular punch grafts usually contain 10 to 15 hairs. Much smaller mini-grafts and micro-grafts contain two to four hairs, and one to two hairs, respectively. Slit grafts, inserted into slits created in the scalp, contain four to ten hairs, and long, thin strip grafts may contain 30 to 40.

While hair transplantation surgeries today are a one day out-patient procedure, several sessions may be required to achieve the desired effect, and a healing interval of a few months may be recommended. It can take up to two years for you to see the effects of a full transplant series.
